Main material: Banana fiber
Our baskets are made from plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully like nature.
Banana fibers are the fibers from the layered trunks of banana trees used in agriculture. The intense brown color is created naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strips are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana plants are used for this material. This gives these plants a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets here at Soeji.

This basket is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we attach great importance to fair payment and good working conditions. In the factories where we source our goods, we work exclusively with adult and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. As all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process causes hardly any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
